Bangladesh has last chance to impress

No comments :

With the Tigers having played their last bilateral series before the World Cup, the only 'game-time' they will get until they reach Brisbane next year will be in the Dhaka Premier League. The importance of the competition, as a result, is bound to increase many-folds this month, with the selectors focusing on certain players to complete their quota of 15 for the World Cup by the first week of January.
Coach Chandika Hathurusingha, before leaving for Sri Lanka on a break, had said that he wanted to see the national players dominate the Dhaka Premier League. Following their return from the Zimbabwe series, the national players have played just one round so far. Anamul Haque's century for Kalabagan Cricket Academy and Taijul Islam's four-wicket haul for Prime Bank Cricket Club have been the only real highlights so far with regards to the national players.
There will however, be a number of players who will be looking to up their game this month in a bid to make it through to the final 15. Nasir Hossain, who was dropped for the Zimbabwe series, will be one of them. He has had an average time in the competition so far with just two half-centuries. He has scored 241 runs at an average of 48.20 and considering the fact that Sabbir Rahman has almost sealed the number seven position after his debut series, Nasir needs to improve on those numbers if he wants a national call.
Also in the line is Shamsur Rahman, who, after making a good start to the competition with four half-centuries, failed to carry on with his form. He has scored 348 runs so far, at an average of 43.50. Shamsur will be battling for the number three spot which the management is yet to settle. The Zimbabwe series saw Mominul Haque, Imrul Kayes and Soumya Sarker play at three.

Bangladesh made a happy-ending

No comments :
Bangladesh made a happy-ending to an until-this-series sordid year at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
Mahmudullah Riyad slogged a length ball from Solomon Mire to the midwicket boundary to complete his match-winning half-century in the face of his side's batting jittery as the Tigers' 'mission whitewash' was accomplished against Zimbabwe with a five-wicket victory in the low-scoring fifth and final ODI.As expected, the clean sweep of the five-match ODI series followed the 3-0 victory in the Test series against the southern African nation, who had no answer to Bangladesh's spin attack even in the last game as Shakib Al Hasan and Taijul, along with tyro leg-spinner Jubair Hossain, bundled them up only for 128 runs after choosing to bat.Taijul Islam however hogged the spotlight in the year's last international engagement as the left-arm spinner became the first bowler in history to claim a hattrick on debut and was adjudged player-of-the-match for his figures of 4-11. The 22-year-old from Natore became the fourth Bangladeshi to claim a treble after Shahadat Hossain, Abdur Razzak and Rubel Hossain.
There was an interesting similarity between Bangladesh's first win and last win in the series. Firstly, Taijul made a Bangladesh record by taking highest eight wickets in an innings in the first Test and then he finished with the world record hattrick in the last ODI. And secondly, on both the occasions, though the first one was a Test match, the Bangladesh top order faltered in chase of small totals, which however caused a concern for the team management.

Bangladesh looking for perfect

No comments :
Thirteen defeats in 14 matches was Bangladesh's ODI record this year prior to the ongoing Zimbabwe series. Heads were buried for most parts of the year and the players seemed to have had forgotten how to win games. A droopy Mushfiqur Rahim would attend the post-match press conferences with a look as confused as his fans; for neither of them knew what was going wrong."There were times this year when we lost close games and that's what put extra pressure on us. Now it is important that we finish this series well. It is important to continue well and that the players take this seriously. We need to perform better than the last four games here," urged a confident Mashrafe Bin Mortaza at the pre-match press conference yesterday.Come this Monday, the Tigers have an opportunity to overcome that feeling by completing a flawless series. Sure enough, the scars left by the likes of Afghanistan, Hong Kong and a host of other teams, will linger despite the series win. But at the end of the day, finishing the year with a 5-0 whitewash is bound to leave a good taste; something that can be a reminder when the Tigers take on the likes of Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka in the World Cup in two months time.
Asked if it would be a disappointment if the Tigers failed to complete the whitewash, Mashrafe said, "After winning four games, I am not thinking about that. All the players are confident after going 4-0 up. Yes anything can happen in cricket but we have to be prepared to win and we will give our best."

Bangladesh one step closer to win

No comments :

Zimbabwe lifted their game a little bit but in the end they embraced the same fate as the Tigers made it 4-0 by winning the fourth ODI, which started after observing a minute's silence to mourn the untimely death of Australian batsman Phillip Hughes, of the five-match series by 21 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur last night.
The visitors for the first time threatened to upset the home side for their first win of the tour through a 106-run fourth-wicket partnership between Brendan Taylor and Solomon Mire. But debuting leg-spinner Jubair Hossain interrupted just in time to break the partnership and put the brakes on Zimbabwe's scoring. The tourists were eventually restricted to 235 for 8 in their 50 overs after Bangladesh had scored a seemingly below-par 256 for 8 in their quota of 50 overs.
Unlike the previous matches, Bangladesh made a poor start under overcast conditions after deciding to bat, but still Zimbabwe failed to capitalise on those chances as the home side moved another step closer towards the expected whitewash of the southern African nation. The fifth and final match will take place at the same venue on December 1.
Mahmudullah Riyad, Mushfiqur Rahim and captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza however deserved the kudos for their batting efforts that helped their side maintain the supremacy over the visitors. Riyad, who hit an unbeaten 82 for his highest score and his first ODI fifty in 18 months, played the anchor's role to stabilise the team twice.

Remember Phillip Hughes

As ever, in the face of terrible tragedies, the questions overwhelm: Why ...  how ...  why ...   why ...  WHY? And as ever, the answers don't remotely satisfy. How can a healthy young man, engaged in the passion of his life, among the world's best at his craft, while wearing protective equipment ...  still be mortally felled by what seemed a relatively innocuous ball?
It defies explanation, for there are no answers worthy of the name. As I wrote on Thursday morning, it seems more a matter of mathematics than mayhem. That is, if players engage in an activity where there is a one-in-10 million chance of mortal injury ...  10 million times ...  then it stands to reason that every few decades someone will be the victim of colossal catastrophe through the fault of no one.
I further noted that while optimism is in the very nature of sport -- the ingrained belief that out of every loss some good must come – in the case of Phillip Hughes this is proved wrong, as from such a thing as this there is only tragedy from which there is no comeback. But maybe I was wrong.
Right now, amid the devastation, there is strong discussion among the Australian cricket community about whether next week's Test against India should go ahead. Would it be disrespectful to play it? Would the players even be capable of concentrating on a mere game in the face of losing such a cherished teammate in such circumstances? The last part is for them to decide.

Bangladesh moving towards

No comments :

Anamul Haque might be ruing his missed century but captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza should be the happiest man after the way the Tigers secured the series against Zimbabwe with two matches in hand at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur last night in front of a near-capacity crowd.
The home side were near perfect in all departments on their way to a massive 124-run victory in the third ODI, barring the individual milestone from someone at the top of the order, as Anamul and Tamim Iqbal carried on their good form to set it up for the bowlers to finish off the job.
There was a lot of similarity with the second match except the late surge which improved a lot to increase the total. Like the second game, a hundred-plus opening partnership was again broken by a freakish run-out of Tamim while Mashrafe and Arafat Sunny were the stars with the ball.
Zimbabwe only won the toss to send their opponents in first, but everything else was won by the hosts who recorded their biggest win over their southern African rivals in terms of runs.
The Tigers kept improving with the series' progression and made their opponents look poorer on way to taking the 3-0 winning lead as the visitors were bowled out for 173 with 10.1 overs still to be bowled in their chase of a mammoth 298 runs.
When Bangladesh piled up a total close to three hundred runs, the result was already written on the wall for the Zimbabweans. The fans started to leave the ground when Brendan Taylor was trapped in front by left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan, his only scalp of the match after a quick 33-ball 40, with the scoreboard reading 82 for five.

Testing before play series first

No comments :

The selectors on Sunday night announced a team only for the third ODI against Zimbabwe which will be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur tomorrow as they are planning to go for some experimentation in the last two games. And the testing will go on only if the Tigers confirm the series tomorrow after the hosts won the first two matches in Chittagong convincingly.
If everything goes according to plan, the team management then may give rest to skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza. It's however yet to confirm whether he will be rested for one match or two. The team think-tank wants to try out three to four players in the last two games keeping World Cup in mind if the hosts win the third ODI as expected. Left-handed opener Tamim Iqbal is suffering from a hamstring injury, but according to sources it's not serious.
Mashrafe not only successfully led his side to the 2-0 lead but also was adjudged player-of-the-match, which he earned after a four-year break, in the second game. But for the team management the most encouraging fact was that the bowler didn't receive any injury. And according to sources it's now all but confirmed that the Narail Express will lead the team in the World Cup next year in Australia and New Zealand if he remains fit. Before the World Cup, Bangladesh are likely to play a tournament in Dubai along with Zimbabwe and the four Associate qualifiers -- Afghanistan, Ireland, Scotland and the UAE -- in January.

BANGLADESH cricket team not like before

No comments :

BANGLADESH cricket team is consistently under performing these days not because they have suddenly forgotten how to play cricket at the highest level, but because the whole team has lost confidence in their abilities. The remedy lies beyond the expertise of their cricket coaches.  The team urgently needs the assistance of sports psychologists to fortify their beliefs in themselves.
Sports psychologists help professional and amateur athletes overcome mental impediments to their sports success.  Many top athletes have credited sports psychologists for enhancing their performance and helping them achieve their goals.  Entourage of elite athletes like tennis superstar Serena Williams always includes sports psychologists.Any top athlete knows that sports is not only physical; a lot of it is also mental.  Muhammad Ali, “The Greatest,” used to win boxing contests before the opening bell by psyching out his opponents with taunts.  Before his title fight against then World Heavyweight Champion Sonny Liston in 1964, Ali acted crazy and made Liston believe that he was really crazy!  No one likes to fight a crazy guy!  Of course Ali won the heavyweight title.
After South Africa won their away series against Australia 1-0 in Australia in 2012, Shane Warne made an astute observation.  He said that unlike some other nations, South Africa was not afraid to beat Australia.  One of the instances Warne was alluding to was the 2006 Fatullah test when Bangladesh had an excellent opportunity to beat Australia, but lost its nerve and the match.

Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe Test match

No comments :

Amidst the hue and cry of Shakib Al Hasan's emphatic performance and Bangladesh's rare series win, the Tigers silently completed 14 years of Test cricket yesterday. With six wins and 11 draws in 87 matches, there is not much to show for, but, Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim expects greater times are ahead. The captain, who believes that Bangladesh could have been in a much better position today, has emphasised the need for improving the country's first-class structure for a better future.
"The point is that Test cricket is the game that gives you the ultimate respect and those involved in it; the board members, players and everyone. I know they all are working hard, but more commitment is required."It's not just about the infrastructure but our players need to get motivated as well. Our first-class structure is not as strong as others. When our first-class competitions begin, the national players are not always engaged. So there is not much competition and hence not much pressure," reckoned Mushfiqur.
"But if you look at other countries, sometimes their first-class teams beat national teams. So, if our first-class wickets are a bit pace-bowling friendly then at least we won't have to struggle outside," he added.Half of Bangladesh's squad for the Zimbabwe series have just recently begun playing Test cricket. Mushfiqur believes that it's necessary for a number of these players to stick it out for the next five to six years for the overall development of the team.

Tigers of Bangladesh are winners

Bangladesh completed a whitewash today in the three-match Test series against Zimbabwe after beating the visitors by a big margin of 186 runs at Chittagong.Zimbabwe put up a brave fight and managed to bring down the trail below 200 runs after put to chase a target 449 runs in their second innings. The spinners made the major damage with Jubair Hossain, Shuvagata Hom claiming two wickets each and Mahmudullah and Taijul one apiece.
Rubel Hossain and Shafiul Islam swept the tail enders to seal the whitewash before tea at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.Mominul Haque was announced Man of the Match while ace allrounder Shakib Al Hasan was awarded series best with 251 runs and 18 wickets in three matches.
On day one, Bangladesh piled 303 riding on record-breaking partnership of Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes with both scoring 100 and Tamim his first at his home ground in Chittagong. On day two, Shakib Al Hasan scored his 16th Test 50 and the tail enders provided an entertaining finish to heave Bangladesh to a first innings total of 503.

Tigers' best-ever Test result in a series

No comments :

Nine wickets separate Bangladesh from achieving a 3-0 whitewash over Zimbabwe, the Tigers' best-ever Test result in a series. Considering that it took them a little over two sessions to bowl out Zimbabwe on the final day in Khulna, one could perhaps expect the hosts roll over the visitors in 90 overs in Chittagong today.
However, the way Bangladesh aggressively stroked their way to 319 yesterday, courtesy of Mominul Haque's fourth Test century, suggests that it might be touch-and-go for the hosts.
Having been set a huge target of 449, Zimbabwe finished the fourth day on 71 for 1 with Brian Chari getting an unfortunate lbw decision going against him; had he reviewed the decision, he could have continued.
While Day Five is expected to widen the cracks, the wicket still has something in it for the batsmen who are willing to spend time at the crease.
And that was exactly what Mominul did yesterday and his perseverance awarded him with his ninth consecutive fifty-plus score in Test cricket. While the innings was not as smooth as his free-flowing 181 at this venue last year, or the enticing 126 which saw him battle a turning track in Dhaka, it did have its share of excitement.

Abahani keep winning VS. DPL

No comments :

Rajin Saleh became the first local batsman to score a century in this season's Dhaka Premier League (DPL), but his effort was not good enough for Partex Sporting Club, as they succumbed to a 25-run defeat against defending champions Gazi Tank at the Fatullah Cricket Stadium yesterday.
Young Left-arm spinner Nayeem Islam claimed six wickets for 33 runs to help Gazi defend their total of 226 runs and secure their second consecutive victory, while Abahani also continued their winning run as they outclassed Prime Doleshwar by eight wickets at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, courtesy of Liton Kumar, who scored 98 runs in the low-scoring match.
Left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny grabbed five wickets for 18 runs, after 24-year old English right-hander Liam Dawson scored an unbeaten 113 as Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club recovered from defeat in their opening match to secure a massive 122-run victory against Kalabagan Krira Chakra at BKSP.

Bangladesh cricket team now in top

No comments :

Shakib Al Hasan swung his bat in sheer frustration after being dismissed cheaply in the second innings yesterday. He was unhappy because he could not fulfil the twin-target the Tigers wanted to achieve against Zimbabwe on the fourth day of the second Test at Khulna.
Shakib did take a five-for earlier in the morning to help Bangladesh fulfil their first target of folding the Zimbabwe first innings as quickly as possible -- the visitors resuming on 331-5 could add only 37 runs to their overnight total before being dismissed.
When he came into bat after achieving a rare double -- a century followed by a five-wicket haul -- the Tigers needed him to pick up the pace in an effort to take a considerable lead before the match entered into the fifth morning.
He was hardly responsible for his demise because the ball Malcolm Waller fired targeting his leg kept a bit low, and on any other day Pakistani umpire Aleem Dar could not have bothered to raise his dreaded finger.
His dismissal suddenly changed the complexion of the game with the Tigers slipping to an uncomfortable 145-5 after captain Mushfiqur Rahim was out for a first-ball duck. Waller almost got his hattrick when Shuvagata Holm nicked one behind that, fortunately for Bangladesh, flew between the wicketkeeper and the lone slip.
A cool and collected Mahmudullah Riyad, unbeaten on 63, however steered the nervy Tigers to 201 without further damage and a lead of 266 runs. Shuvagata also looked comfortable after that early bump and stayed unbeaten on 23.
It certainly put Bangladesh in pole position to push for a victory on a weary fifth day wicket with Shakib leading a three-pronged spin attack.

Bangledesh vs. Hong Kong T20 match

1 comment :

In T20 cricket match was Bangladesh vs. Hong Kong, and Hong Kong won.

The first time Hong Kong played cricket T20 match in Bangladesh. They both good played. But Bangladesh was lose in last over.
Bangladesh did qualify for the Super 10 stage, but did so in embarrassing circumstances in Chittagong.
Haseeb Amjad (12) hammered the fourth ball of the 20th over for a six to bring up the winning runs at the Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
Sent in to bat first, hosts Bangladesh batted with reckless abandon and paid the price as they were skittled out for 108 in just 16.3 overs.
The stunning batting collapse provided Nepal with an outside chance to go through. But Hong Kong failed to reach the target of 109 in 13.2 overs.
Bangladesh will now play reigning champions West Indies, former champions Pakistan and India and Australia.
But skipper Mushfiqur Rahim will be certainly worried since losing to an associate nation is not the best way to prepare for tougher contests.
It was the fourth time an Associate Nation defeated a Test-playing nation in T20 internationals.
Irfan Ahmed (34) -- dropped twice, on 0 and 12, started off briskly, although his opening partner Waqas Barkat sent back by Shakib Al Hasan for a duck.
Shakib proved unplayable, and he along with the other spinners put Bangladesh right on top.
The left-arm spinner struck twice in his fourth and last overs. Skipper Jamie Atkinson (7) and Irfan were both trapped in the front. Shakib ended with stunning figures of 3-9 in his four, which included 17 dot balls.
Rubel Hossain could not bowl because of injury after he tried and fluffed the low catching chance of Irfan.
Babar Hayat (1) edged Al-Amin Hossain back to Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah struck with his first ball to get better of Mark Chapman (5), sending the anxious crowd into delirium and leaving Hong Kong reeling at 50 for 5 in 9.1overs.
Forty-year old Munir Dar, who top-scored with a fine 36, had different ideas as he kept the taking cheeky ones and twos and hitting the occasional boundaries.
Abdur Razzak was brought back into the attack after the ball was changed in what was the last throw of the dice from his captain.
Mahmudullah trapped Dar leg before. Sabbir then went through the defence of Tanwir Afzal.
Mahmudullah also took out Niazat Khan (12), who holed out to Mominul Haque, the substitute fielder.
But Amjad kept his cool in the final over
The Tigers fell from 85 for 3 in the space of just four overs, losing their last 7 wickets for just 23 runs to keep millions of their fans on the edge.
Anamul Haque, Shakib and Mushfiqur Rahim all threw their wickets away to leave Bangladesh in trouble.
Mushfiqur, after the match, admitted that they did not read the wicket well thinking it was a 140 wicket.

The Bangladesh team tries their best for victory

Bangladesh has now trying their best for win vs Sri Lanka

Bangladesh has been pushing Sri Lanka very close almost every time the two sides have met over the last month or so, but they have just lost out in the end.
The whole team appears they will give their best to win the last match before the World Twenty20 and the Asia Cup starts in Bangladesh. We have to win to keep the series alive. We are focused on just that. If we don’t make casual mistakes and if luck favors us we have the ability to win, Musfiqur Rahim said that.
Bangladesh will want senior players like Mushfiqur and Shakib Al Hasan to take bat more responsibly, particularly if Tamim Iqbal remains down with a neck strain.
What is worrying for the hosts is that opener Tamim Iqbal and pace spearhead Mashrafe Mortaza are not yet fit.
Tamim’s inclusion may omit Mahmudullah Riyad. Debutant in the last match Al-Amin Hossain may be left out if Mashrafe is brought in.
If Mushfiq returns to keep behind the stumps, all-rounder Naeem Islam will return to the side. He was the highest scorer (163 runs in three matches in an average of 54.33) for Bangladesh in their latest ODI series against New Zealand.
Paul Farbrace, the Sri Lankan coach, hopes that the task will not fall upon just one player in the remaining matches.
Off-spinner Sachithra Senanayake hinted that Sri Lankan squad would remain the same except injured pacer Nuan Kulasekara.
The tigers of Bangladesh team will be trying their best.

New Zealand drew the second Test with India

Brendon McCullum became the first New Zealander to score a Test triple century

The captain's 647-minute knock ended when he fell for 302 from 559 balls. McCullum, 32, shared a Test-record sixth-wicket stand of 352 with wicketkeeper Brad Watling (124) as the hosts declared on 680-8 in Wellington.
That was the Kiwis' highest Test score and also a world-record total for a third innings in Test cricket.
India were 166-3 at the close, with Virat Kohli 105 not out, as they failed to avenge their 40-run defeat in the first Test in Auckland.
McCullum, 32, hit 224 in that match but this time surpassed the 299 Martin Crowe made at the same venue against Sri Lanka in January 1991, becoming only the 27th triple centurion in Test history.
After a nervous moment on 293 when he edged a ball from Ishant Sharma that fell short of Mahendra Dhoni, he chopped away a Zaheer Khan delivery to the boundary to pass 300.
But he was out just two balls later, edging Zaheer Khan through to Dhoni.
McCullum's side had been staring defeat in the face when, with five wickets down and needing another 152 runs to prevent an innings defeat in the second Test, Watling joined him at the crease.
But the duo turned the match on its head and debutant Jimmy Neesham added an unbeaten 137, the highest score by a debutant batting at number eight, to see New Zealand to safety.

Bangladesh again lost the 3rd match vs. Sri Lanka

No comments :

This is 3rd time Bangladesh lost the cricket match vs. Sri Lanka Shere-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Monday 2pm to 8.45pm

Bangladesh was so near for win this cricket match.
The hosts, chasing 181 for victory in a rain-reduced 43 over’s match, were 114-2 in the 20th over. They crashed to 167 in 39.2 over’s losing eight wickets but added only 53 from a position of strength.
When the side’s topscorer Shamsur Rahman (62) was dismissed, 67 was required with eight wickets left but the middle-order combusted to hand the tourists a narrow win.
Opener Anamul Haque was back in the hutch in the second delivery of the innings, but a 79-run second-wicket partnership between Mominul Haque and Shamsur put them back on track.
Thisara Perera was the man to put an end to the partnership as he sent back Mominul, who was six runs short of his maiden ODI fifty.
Shamsur made it to his maiden ODI fifty but soon after fell victim of a run-out, leaving the score on 114-3.
Bangladesh’s chances started receding from that point and could add only 54 runs.
Mushfiqur Rahim, who was the ninth prey of Sri Lanka, added 27 runs off 50 deliveries. He saw five of his men join him and go back in a hurry.
Three of them were run-out including the last one, Rubel Hossain, as Sri Lanka came back from the dead to pull off an unlikely victory.
Angelo Mathews picked up three wickets, while Sachithra Senanayake took two.
Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bowl first.
The match was delayed by an hour and forty five minutes as excessive water on the field took too much time to dry due to the new grass on the field despite the rain having stopped some time ago.
Sri Lanka were bowled out for 180 runs in 40 over’s.
They were in deep trouble at 67 for 8, struggling to get to 100 but Bangladesh bowlers and fielders let the Lankans off the hook.
But they fought back with a late 82-run ninth wicket partnership between Perera and Senanayake (30) to put up a respectable total.
Five drop catches by the home side let the shackles off the Sri Lankan batsmen.
Perera, who was adjudged Man of the Match, was reprieved three times.
He cashed in on the sloppy fielding to a career-best 80 off 57 balls, his third fifty that contained four boundaries and six sixes.
Rubel Hossain, Shakib Al Hasan and Arafat Sunny picked up two wickets each for the hosts.
The second of the three-ODI series will be on Feb 20 at the same venue.
At the last moment all Bangladeshi fan are shocked for this wicket.
