Sony Pictures Entertainment announced that the web-slinger will appear in a Marvel film before his next solo adventure in the $4bn franchise is released on 28 July, 2017.
That film will be co-produced by Marvel Studios' head Kevin Feige and former Sony studio head Amy Pascal.
This announcement is a significant partnership between rival studios Disney, which owns Marvel, and Sony, which holds rights to the Spider-Man character.

Mr Feige has helped Marvel see huge success in recent years with Iron Man and The Avengers films becoming Hollywood hits.
The most recent Spider-Man film, starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, took around $700m worldwide and was largely considered a disappointment by Sony.
The Avengers release in 2012 took $1.5bn.
According to the statement on Monday, other characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), such as Iron Man, Thor and Captain America, may be integrated into future Spider-Man movies.
But it is not known who will wear the red mask after Garfield made his last appearance in 2014.
Marvel's schedule has been significantly altered by the new partnership, with films such as Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Thor: Ragnarok being moved back five to six months.
